On Tuesday, April 8, graduating seniors received an email from Lewis & Clark’s College of Arts and Sciences Commencement Committee announcing this year’s commencement speaker and senior speaker who will address the Class of 2025 at the graduation ceremony next month. The committee selected Deborah Bial as the commencement speaker. Bial is the president and founder of The Posse Foundation, an organization that partners with American colleges and universities to provide full-tuition scholarships and leadership programming to groups of students from diverse backgrounds. LC has worked with The Posse Foundation to bring 10 Posse scholars to the college since 2021.
The committee selected Katie Ingersoll ’25 to be the senior speaker. Ingersoll is a biochemistry and microbiology major from Bothell, WA. Ingersoll has been involved around campus in various roles throughout her time at LC, including playing on the softball team for all four years and working as an RA, a SAAB chemistry tutor, a chemistry TA and a Rogers Summer Science Intern.
“I’m honored and excited to be chosen as the senior speaker! In my speech, I plan to convey the love and gratitude I feel for the people and places of Lewis & Clark. I hope that everyone will be able to find a piece of their college experience reflected in mine,” Ingersoll said in a statement to The Mossy Log.
She noted that although the opportunities and experiences available at the college have been important to her, the people involved at the school are what has made her time here special.
“My LC experience has been everything I’d hoped. I’ve accomplished goals, studied abroad, and learned about who I am and who I want to be. However, the aspect of school that has single-handedly made this experience was the people. Lewis & Clark is full of passionate, interesting, funny, and kind people who I am incredibly grateful to know,” she said.
Ingersoll also shared her post-graduate plans.
“After graduation, I will be moving to Denver, where I will get experience as an MA in a local clinic, with plans to apply to medical school in the future. I look forward to continuing to meet new people, explore and learn after I leave,” she said.
Commencement will be held on May 10 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
