On the eve of Oct 31, a body was discovered outside the Platt-Howard dormitory. The unidentified victim was rushed to the hospital, where they are currently in stable condition. However, the scene, which was quickly secured by Campus Safety, suggested this attack was possibly premeditated.
The Mossy Log denies all claims that a journalist was able to get onto the scene before Campus Safety was able to arrive. We have done nothing of the sort, and we have checked to ensure that all information present in the article has been revealed by Campus Safety. We do not know more than they do.
Sydney Scream ’27, a self-proclaimed final girl, agreed to an interview with our journalists (Editorial Board note: we tried ignoring her emails. She showed up to our meeting and demanded to be interviewed. We gave up. Please forgive us). The details of this interview are not fit to print, and witnesses who said they overheard her screaming that “she knew we were to blame, all to have more interesting stories to write about” are liars.
Campus Safety appears to have ignored Scream and her claims, and instead, quickly investigated the actual friends of the victim. All members of the victim’s friend group was a part of were contacted for questioning. We have been unable to reach them for an interview, and we do not know how Campus Safety was able to locate them before we were — a true failure of student journalism or possibly a side effect of midterms week, whatever gets you to not question us.
During their investigation, Campus Safety discovered a Ghostface mask in the possession of each student suspect. All masks were hidden in a variety of places in the students’ dorm rooms, including under the mattress, in the closet and one particularly determined student who had managed to shove the mask into the void between the bed and the wall, otherwise known as the void that consumes all. It is unknown how Campus Safety managed to retrieved it.
Witnesses reported that Editor-in-Chief Gemma Ambrosia ’25 was seen near multiple students’ dorms with masks in hand. The Mossy Log was able to independently verify this is a vicious lie. To repeat, all Mossy Log editors have been deemed not guilty, and any evidence that may suggest otherwise is inadmissible in court.
Later, Scream was found stabbed to death in Olin, but that is probably unrelated to her talking to us at the paper. We had nothing but nice things to say about her!
One source allegedly reported a Mossy Log journalist to Campus Safety. The journalist had been accused of walking through the Rose Garden with a Spirit Halloween bag, with what looked like Ghostface masks. No more information is available at this time.
A few days after the discovery of the murder, an anonymous student reported a suspicious figure lurking outside of Holmes. They described the figure as dressed in a black trench coat, holding a very conspicuous camera and asking passerby for their class year before muttering, “No, we already have too many sophomores for the article!” and scurrying off. Following up on this tip, a Campus Safety patrol circling the back of Holmes thought they saw that very figure in black, but the figure quickly ducked into the building upon seeing the car. Officers pursued them on foot and thought they cornered the suspect in the laundry room, but upon opening the door they saw only News editor Leona Eyelers ’26. Eyelers was not brought in for questioning.
The Mossy Log will remain on the case, praying, of course, that there are no more attacks. But if there are, be sure to pick up our paper, and keep an eye out for our book, coming May 2025!
