Are you interested in meeting more people, staying in shape, and joining a team? Outside of our athletics department, Lewis & Clark is host to multiple club sports. If you are a beginner, do not worry — clubs recruit members regardless of skill level and will teach the basics.
Cycling Club/Bike Co-op
The LC Cycling Club both participates in tournaments and organizes casual group rides around the Portland metro area, offering a space for cyclers of any level. Recently, they have been racing cyclo-cross — intense, short-form, off-road cycling over various obstacles — in the Portland Trophy Cup, a casual race tournament, on Tuesday nights from Sept. 9 to Oct. 14. Prospective members can reach out to cycling@lclark.edu for more information on meeting times and upcoming events.
Co-ed Club Rugby
Competing in the Northwest Collegiate Rugby Conference spanning across Oregon, Washington and Idaho, the rugby team welcomes players of all genders and experience levels. Rugby is a fast-paced team sport where players try to carry or kick an ovoid ball over the opponent’s goal line to score points. The team is a great way to get to know students from different colleges around Portland; last season, they merged with Reed College’s team and competed together. They can be reached at mrugby@lclark.edu and wrugby@lclark.edu for more information.
Palatine Hill Climb Team
Interested in building physical strength, agility and mental focus through rock climbing? The Palatine Hill Climb Team holds practices at The Circuit Bouldering Gym SW, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, and 5-7:30 p.m. on Fridays. No car, no problem — the club meets near Roberts 112 15 minutes before practice begins to commute to the gym together. However, you need to notify them ahead of time to reserve a seat in their van. Interested students can contact climbingteam@lclark.edu for more information.
Pickleball Club (LC Picklers) – lcpicklers@lclark.edu
President Kyle Agena ’26, Vice President Tres Roberts ’27 and Secretary Stella Kinney ’26 run LC’s Pickleball Club. If you are interested in practicing or joining, they practice from 6-8 p.m. in the Tennis Dome on Sundays. The team welcomes players of all levels and will teach you the rules of the game for those who are unfamiliar. According to Roberts, once they receive more funding, they will also be starting to play badminton. Reach out to lcpicklers@lclark.edu for more information.
Artemis Women’s Ultimate Frisbee & Bacchus Men’s Ultimate Frisbee
LC offers two ultimate frisbee teams, the Artemis team for women and the Bacchus team for men. Ultimate frisbee is a non-contact sport where teams score points by passing the disc to a teammate in the opposing end zone. Both teams compete in USA Ultimate DIII tournaments, and in recent years, the two teams have reached the National Championships. Practice times may vary, but the teams typically practice both on and off campus several nights a week, including a guaranteed on-campus practice on Wednesdays from 8-10 p.m. For more information, reach out to artemis@lclark.edu and bacchus@lclark.edu.
