On Oct. 28, Juris Education, one of the nation’s top law school admissions consulting firms, published a study that ranked the fifty states by how they performed on the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) in 2024. Oregon was ranked No. 5 in the country, with a leading score of 157.28 out of 180 possible points. This is in comparison to the average national score, which falls between 152 and 153. Lewis & Clark’s Law School held the highest median LSAT score in the state, which contributed to Oregon’s high overall ranking.
Calandra Almond, an admissions counselor with Juris Education, highlighted the caliber of LC’s law program in a statement shared with The Mossy Log via email.
“Oregon, ranking fifth in the nation for average LSAT scores among test takers, showcases Lewis & Clark Law School setting the standard for excellence in legal education,” Almond wrote. “With a median LSAT score of 160, Lewis & Clark holds the highest median LSAT score of any law school in the state.”
The District of Columbia, Utah, Massachusetts and Colorado were ranked as having the highest state average LSAT scores, in that order.
Colorado and Oregon nearly tied, with Colorado’s state average LSAT score of 157.53 being only a quarter of a point higher than Oregon’s 157.28.
Some law schools are moving away from requiring the LSAT in the same way that some undergraduate colleges are deprioritizing SAT and ACT scores in admissions processes. However, like most law schools in the nation, LC does still require applicants to take the LSAT.
While LC does not have a minimum score requirement, this study underscores the competitive nature of its applicant pool and can inform application decisions for students interested in attending LC’s law school.
The Northwestern School of Law has been nationally recognized for its programs in environmental and natural resources law, animal law, public interest law, intellectual property and legal writing.
Applications for the law school are currently open for interested students, and applications received by March 15, 2025 will be given priority consideration.
