  1. “President Holmes-Sullivan spoke with the students, and reminded them of the endowment’s primary purpose, which is to maintain gifts from donors in a way that ensures the financial health of the college.” In other words, maximize returns at the expense of ethics. At least they are honest. I got the feeling that ethical considerations were also foreign to the PSU administration when students returned to their years-long protest in 2023-24.
Much admiration for students at both campuses for forcing the hand of the administrations. Power does seem to indeed concede nothing without a demand, and the demands must be backed up with strong action that makes power feel uncomfortable. Witness Senators Merkley and Wyden – hundreds and thousands of people have spoken out to them year after year about the Israeli settlement program and US support for it, and all they get in return is liberal doubletalk. And now future member of Congress Maxine Dexter picks up the same banner with her millions in AIPAC-type contributions. Our letters to them, and efforts to meet with them, mean nothing; their donors, and the tenets of the military-industrial complex, mean everything.
